Background: Mental illness, specifically anxiety and depressive symptoms are widespread throughout the world; they make up a significant portion of the global disease burden. Nursing institutes' environments are known to be stressful, which frequently hinders students’ educational outcomes, physical health, and psychological well-being. Counseling minimizes mental health issues and increases student retention. This study assessed the effectiveness of nurse-led psychological counselling sessions on anxiety and depressive symptoms among undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed. Counseling sessions were conducted for the students. Validated self-administered questionnaire was used to gather both pre and post intervention data. Data were analyzed by using SPSS 22 for the pre and postintervention comparison. Results: 54 undergraduate nursing students in Peshawar were enrolled. Mean age of participants was 20.96 +0.99 years. The results of the study in pre-intervention phase showed that female scored significantly higher on anxiety and depression scale. Analysis of the results after the intervention showed a statistically significant reduction in anxiety and depression score, which shows that the intervention was effective. Conclusion: The findings of the study provided evidence that nurse-led psychological counselling is effective in reducing anxiety and depressive symptoms in undergraduate nursing students.
