Author Guidelines

1. Overview

History of Medicine invites original research, reviews, case studies, and commentary. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical publishing. Authors are encouraged to thoroughly review our guidelines before submitting their manuscripts to ensure they meet our standards.

  1. Manuscript Categories

We accept the following types of manuscripts:

Original Research Articles: Detailed studies reporting original research findings.

Original Research Articles: In-depth studies presenting new research findings.

 Review Articles: Extensive reviews on specific medicine, Health topics.

Case Studies: Detailed reports of individual cases offering insights into clinical practice.

Commentaries: Brief articles with expert opinions on current Health issues.

  1. Submission Process
    All manuscripts must be submitted through our online submission system. Authors should create an account, log in, and follow the instructions to upload their manuscript and related files. For any difficulties with the online submission, please email us at: editor@historymedjournal.com.
  1. Manuscript Preparation

Proper manuscript preparation is crucial for ensuring a smooth review and publication process. Authors are encouraged to adhere to the following guidelines when preparing their submissions.

 

  1. General Format

Language and Writing: Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English. If the article is in another language, the title and abstract in English are required. Authors who are not fluent in English are encouraged to use professional language editing services before submission.

Document Formatting: Use double-spacing throughout the manuscript, including references and tables. Number all pages consecutively, starting with the title page.

Font and Margins: Use a standard, readable font such as Times New Roman, 10-point size. Margins should be at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) on all sides.

File Format: Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format. Figures and tables should be submitted as separate files in high-resolution formats (e.g., .jpeg, .png, .tiff).

 

  1. Structure

 

Title Page: The title page should include:

  • The manuscript title, which should be brief and informative.
  • Full names of all authors along with their institutional affiliations, including department, institution, city, and country.
  • Contact details for the corresponding author, including email address and phone number.
  • Acknowledgments of any funding sources, contributors, or other support.

Abstract: The abstract should be a single paragraph, no longer than 250 words, summarizing the study’s objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. It should be structured as follows:

  • Background: Brief context and rationale for the study.
  • Objectives: The main aim or hypothesis.
  • Methods: A brief description of the study design, participants, and procedures.
  • Results: Key findings of the study.
  • Conclusions: Main conclusions and their implications.

Keywords: Provide 3-5 keywords that accurately represent the manuscript’s content. List them in alphabetical order and separate them with commas.

Main Text: Organize the manuscript into these sections:

  • Introduction: Outline the background, significance, and objectives of the study. Clearly state the research question or hypothesis.
  • Methods: Detail the study design, participants, interventions, data collection, and analysis methods. Include enough information for replication.
  • Results: Present the study’s findings clearly and logically. Use tables and figures for complex data, but do not interpret the results here.
  • Discussion: Interpret the results in relation to existing research. Discuss the study’s implications, strengths, limitations, and suggest future research directions.
  • Conclusion: Summarize the key findings and their implications for practice, policy, or further research.

References: Use a consistent citation style (e.g., APA, Vancouver). Ensure all references are complete and accurate, and list them at the end of the manuscript.

Tables and Figures: Place tables and figures at the end of the manuscript or in separate files. Each should have a concise, descriptive caption and be numbered consecutively in the order they are cited in the text.

  1. Ethical Considerations

 

  Authorship: List only those individuals who have made significant contributions to the research and manuscript. Each author must meet the authorship criteria set by the ICMJE.

  Conflict of Interest: Disclose any financial or personal relationships that might influence the research. Include a conflict of interest statement at the end of the manuscript.

  Ethical Approval: For studies involving human participants or animals, confirm that the research adhered to ethical guidelines and was approved by relevant ethics committees. Provide the committee’s name and approval number.

  Informed Consent: If applicable, confirm that informed consent was obtained from all participants. For research involving vulnerable populations, describe additional measures taken to protect them.

  1. Data Sharing

Data Availability Statement: Include a statement detailing where the data supporting the study’s findings can be accessed. If the data is publicly available, provide the name of the repository and any relevant accession numbers or DOIs. If the data is not publicly available, explain why and describe how it can be accessed, if possible.

Supplementary Material: Authors are encouraged to provide supplementary materials that support the main findings, such as additional datasets, detailed methodological descriptions, or multimedia files. Submit supplementary materials as separate files and reference them in the manuscript.

Plagiarism and Originality

All submissions must be original and not previously published or under review elsewhere. Manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism using advanced detection tools such as Turnitin. Any form of plagiarism is unacceptable and will lead to rejection.

Peer Review Process

History of Medicine uses a rigorous double-blind peer review system, where manuscripts are evaluated by at least two independent experts. Authors may be asked to make revisions based on reviewers' feedback. The final decision rests with our editorial board.

  1. Manuscript Revisions

If revisions are required, authors will receive detailed feedback from reviewers and be asked to submit a revised manuscript within a set timeframe. Please highlight the changes made and provide a comprehensive response to reviewers' comments.

  1. Acceptance and Publication

Once accepted, manuscripts undergo copyediting, typesetting, and proofing. Authors will review proofs for final approval before publication. Articles are first published online and then included in a forthcoming issue.

  1. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant History of Medicine exclusive rights to first publication. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), allowing for free use and distribution with proper attribution.

  1. Retractions and Corrections

History of Medicine will issue retractions or corrections in cases of significant errors or ethical concerns, following COPE guidelines.
