In 2014, the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (1st MSMU) published the first issue of the scientific and peer-reviewed journal “History of Medicine”.
The journal was created based on initiatives for its establishment at the I Scientific-Methodological Conference “The History of Medicine: the challenges of teaching and research”, on April 5, 2013.
The Rector of Professor I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Glibochko, designated the Head of the History of Medicine Department, History of Russia and Cultural Studies, D.A. Balalykin, to create this journal. The conference participants (more than 50 departmental members of Russian medical universities where courses on the “History of Medicine” are included in the curriculum) enthusiastically supported the initiative. This decision was reflected in the resolution of the First Scientific Methodological Council to create a scientific journal on the history of medicine.
In 2014, at the Fifth All-Russian Conference, the Second Scientific Methodical Council held the: “History of Medicine as part of the system of continuous professional education” (photo), where the first issue of the scientific practical journal “History of Medicine” was presented, with the international participation of “Medical Education – 2014”. Colleagues from the regions and partners of the department of the History of Medicine, the History of Russia and Cultural Studies at 1st MSMU, thanked P. V. Glybochko for his support in forming an authoritative platform for discussing and updating historical and medical research within the framework of modern theoretical and methodological approaches to the history of science. The resolution adopted by the participants of the Second Scientific Methodological Council provided that the journal “History of Medicine” would ensure implementation of a scientific trend that has not been previously represented in Russian history of science. It would also strengthen the leadership of I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and the Russian school of the History of Medicine at the international level.
