Scientific-practical seminars with international participation «Social history of the medicine: Aristotle, Galen, Vesalius

From 18 to 22 April 2016 at the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University due to the grant of the Russian Scientific Foundation «The legacy of Aristotle as a constitutive element of the European rationality in historical perspective» will be held the scientific workshops with international participation «Social history of the medicine: Aristotle, Galen, Vesalius».

The Round-table discussion will take place in the presence of the leading historian of medicine in the UK, a member of the British Academy, a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, professor of the chair of History of Medicine, National History and Culturology at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Vivian Nutton. He will take a part in the following seminars:

  • The rise, fall and rise of the Hippocratic Oath
  • Galen: thinking about the body
  • Andreas Vesalius the Galenist
  • Viewing the body, from Galen to Vesalius
  • Evaluating early therapeutics: a German-Russian enterprise

On 20 April 2016 will be held the Round-table discussion with invited professors from the Moscow State University, Institute of the World History, Institute of Philosophy Russian Academy of Sciences on the topic “Histories of medicine, histories of science, problems of interdisciplinarity”
Students, graduate students and scholars who are interested in the research on the history of medicine are welcome to participate in the activities.
