Abstract

Stroke is a worldwide cause of morbidity and mortality that affects health-related quality of life. To assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in stroke patients by Stroke Impact Scale (SIS) 3.0 and to identify the factors related with HRQoL. Across sectional study conducted at nervous system units and physiotherapy units in Diyala General Hospitals, included 440 collected from 9th February/2022 to 9th June/2022. The sample was collected for the supervision of neurologist. HRQoL was assessed using SIS 3.0 which is a specific scale to the stroke. Mean age of the participants with stroke was 66.4 (SD 10.3) years. The study revealed that the patients between age 70-79groups were males and unskilled. The mean overall HRQOL was 191(SD 31.2) as measured by Stroke Impact Scale version (3.0). The overall quality of life level of the Cerebrovascular accident patient who participate in the study was moderate. The socio-demographic factors which had significant associations with HRQOL were Age, gender, level of education, marital status, occupation (p < 0.05). While there is a non-significant difference between HRQOL and their clinical data in all items except there is only a significant difference in hypertension, diabetes, angina significantly increased the risk of stroke. The results indicated that decreased motor function and impaired cognitive status were closely associated with poor HRQoL in patients with stroke.
