Abstract

Specifically, the aims of this study are to describe and analyze the current condition of laboratory management in the mechanical engineering expertise program at SMK, to evaluate the implementation of good laboratory management and its impact on increasing student competence in the mechanical engineering expertise program at SMK. Identify obstacles and challenges in implementing good laboratory management in the mechanical engineering expertise program at SMK. As well as providing recommendations and solutions that can help increase the effectiveness of laboratory management and student competence in the mechanical engineering expertise program at SMK. A well-managed laboratory will support student achievement and have a very positive effect on the availability and effective use of laboratory equipment on academic achievement students at school. The results of effective laboratory management in supporting the learning process and optimal student achievement. Quantitative research method with case study design. Data sources are all human resources related to management in the field of Mechanical Engineering at Vocational High Schools which are the focus of research. Data collection techniques are through observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The study focused on laboratory management conditions in the Mechanical Engineering expertise program at selected SMKs, namely SMKN 1 Sukabumi and SMKN 1 Gunungguruh. This research will not involve aspects of laboratory management in expertise programs other than Mechanical Engineering. Aspects of managing laboratory facilities, the teacher's role as a facilitator, and the use of laboratory facilities in increasing student competence include practical skills, knowledge of mechanical engineering, and the ability to operate industrial machines.
