Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase Analysis in Indonesian Students Worksheets

Abstract

This study is focus on identifying the syntax of Noun Phrase and Verb Phrase from the descriptive text based on student worksheet entitled "English Enrichment Module Class VIII”. This research is a qualitative research using descriptive method and Tree Diagram. The total results of the researcher's analysis in an Indonesian Forest text contained of ninety-six noun phrases and verb phrases. The number of Constituent can affect how many phrases are used. In Noun Phrase there are seventy variations with the most variation is N Twenty-three times while in Verb Phrase which is often used is V which is repeated Twenty-five times. From the results mentioned above, we can understand that Noun Phrase is used more than Verb Phrase in descriptive texts because the use of NP is to describe and explain everything before or after the verb. This research is expected to be used as new and useful information for readers, teachers and students, especially in understanding how the use of NP and VP is used in descriptive text.
